Starting School - Centering and Grounding Support
Whether it's Kindergarten, grade 1, a new school or just breaking out of a more lax, late to bed-late to rise summer routine heading back-to-school can for some kids be a hard adjustment. Here are a few things to consider to ease/support the transition.
1. Re-establishing school time routines This can take something - it doesn't just happen. Take some time to visualize what would be the ideal - i.e. maybe a 7:00pm - 7:30pm bedtime and then also ask yourself what needs to happen for this to actually happen - i.e. 5:00pm - 5:30 pm dinner makes the 7:30pm bedtime possible - but is that possible? Bedtime is hardest for us if we're not intentional and time-conscious as it takes time for most kids to transition from go to stop and missing the window and stepping into overtired-second-wind-energy is a lot of fun till it's not. 0-: We like some warm goat/raw milk, cinnamon and honey before bed to help us set our internal clock to get to bed a bit earlier!
2. Rescue remedy in their water bottle and maybe yours if you're feeling nervous about that first day/week of school - they will pick up on what you're feeling more than saying you can be sure of that! Breathe long and deep. (-:
3. Aurum Lavender Rose Cream * is a cream made by Uriel Pharmacy. Applying some on your child's chest before bed or before school or any stressful event is very grounding and helps as well if your child is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation, excess stimulation to the senses or not used to being with lots of people. These remedies are available by order from our clinic - email monika@opentowellness.ca for this/other common anthroposophical medicines.
* This is an anthropophosical medicine (a system of medicine created by the same visionary -Rudolf Steiner - that created Waldorf Education and Biodynamic Farming).
