Support Pre and Post Surgery - Basic Protocol for Clients
The nutritional and homeopathic supplement suggestions are basic ones that my clients have found supportive over the years.
Add these to basic healthy foundational lifestyle and regenrative practices that optimize and work with your body’s natural ability to heal such as:
incorporating yoga nidra into your day optimally am and pm
asking for and accepting help
bringing enjoyment, beauty, laughter, connection into your day in whichever ways nourishes you
prioritize est and relaxation
if you have access to a Bemer device (improves microcirculation by 30%) I highly recommend incorporating this treatment daily in your treatment protocol especially if you are healing areas that by their nature have less blood flow than other structures in the body (such as ligaments and joints) - our ckinic has a Bemer mat ad recovery pads at present if you are in the Canmore-Banff area.
acupuncture is supportive as well once you are up and aboutAdd anti-inflammatory foods such as whole fruits and vegetables and cook with turmeric and ginger. Teas work well if you don’t like the tastes.
add detox foods like cruciferous veggies if your diet is lacking. Try roasting them with Olive oil, salt, and pepper.
increase lean proteins to keep muscle mass intact and allow the body to lay down new healthy tissue through recovery.
eating an anti-inflammatory diet that is rich in nutrient rich whole organic foods - include blueberries which are rich in bioflavonoids and help in healing tissue, .nutrient rich soups that are easy to digest, grounding and comforting
This supplement protocol will vary depending on the type of surgery and the individual but here’s some common recommendations to support recovery …
Arnica 200 CH – 3 pellets right after surgery and before bed that day and then Arnica 200 K – every hour after surgery – 3 – 5 times per day for first 5 days and then 2-3 times per day for next 10 days to help decrease inflammation in soft tissue.
Stay on probiotic pre and post surgery = HMF Antibiotic/HMF Intensive – 1, 2 times per day.
Post surgery: Wobenzyme Plus – 120 – 2, 2 times per day 45 minute away from food – for 1 month.
Chelidoniumplex – usually this is started as soon as possible when it is known a surgery is coming up and continued afterwards. It supports the lymphatic flow in the body. Whereas the blood brings in the groceries, the lymphatic system takes out the trash. This helps clear the body of the accumulated toxic load and clear out drug residues from the surgery.
Undas 1, 20, 243, 258 – 5 drops of each am and pm. This combination of undas works to break down and move toxins all the way out of the body.
It is commonly recommended to stop everything (including Multis, Fish oil, etc.) except probiotics and homeopathics 7 days before surgery and resume afterwards as recommended by your surgeon.
I generally recommend stopping the homeopathic drainage remedies (undas) 3 days before and resuming after.
Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) (capsules by Pure Encapsulations) - 1, 2 times per day (Vitamin C to support healing. Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps to protect cells from free radical damage and is needed to make collagen which aids in wound healing.
Vitamin D with K - 2 drops
SPM Active boosts the body’s cleanup mechanisms caused by the initial immune response to trauma by promoting the removal of microbes and apoptotic cells, therefore decreasing pain caused by these leftovers which, if left in the system, can create additional inflammation, pain, and swelling in tissues. 2 pills twice a day for at least 2 weeks after surgery and as needed after. I personally use this supplement regularly because of the positive impact of reducing root inflammation on the whole body as we age.
Surgery homeopathic mix you can make (Boiron is a good company to purchase homeopathics from - your ND may be able to order for you if you need help accessing) - Hypericum 30K, Staphysagria 30 K and Arnica 30 K 3 pellets of each 2-3 times per day. Hypericum treats nerve injury and pain, Arnica helps relieve trauma, edema, inflammation, and Staphysagria deals with the injury at an emotional and mental level. Start this combo the day before your procedure and continue for 1 week after or as advised by your ND.
*For hysterectomy or abdominal surgery the homeopathic Bellis perenis 200K can be taken at the same timing as the Arnica homeopathics.
