Peri-Menopause & Menopause Revitalized: What’s Actually Happening and How to Partner With Yourself

Navigating peri-menopause and menopause can feel like a daunting journey, filled with various physical and emotional changes. Yet, amidst this transition, it’s crucial to recognize that you have the power to support your wellness. By understanding the hormonal shifts occurring in your body, you can partner with yourself to embrace this phase of life with confidence and ease. You deserve the support to engage in midlife wellness empowered and revitalized!

The Hormonal Shifts: Understanding Progesterone

Progesterone is the mothering hormone - it calms our stress, plays a part in lulling us to sleep and reminds us to take time to slow down, to take time to reflect and nourish and rest our beings.

Progesterone is the first hormone to decrease during peri-menopause. The decline of progesterone is an invitation to bring our loving, motherly presence and care to ourselves and ur desires and dreams.

Now the decrease in progesterone doesn’t just affect your uterus; progesterone receptors are located throughout your body, including in your brain. These receptors play a vital role in supporting mood and brain health.

When progesterone levels drop, you may experience a range of symptoms, including:

  • Less restorative sleep

  • Increased anxiety and irritability

  • Memory lapses and cognitive changes

Recognizing these symptoms as a result of hormonal changes can help you approach them with compassion rather than frustration.

The Toxic Burden on Hormonal Health

In addition to hormonal shifts, we must consider the toxic burden on our bodies and their impact during peri-menopause. Factors like estrogen disruptors in our environment, exposure to blue light, and other modern stressors can hinder our hormonal balance. If the toxic load is too high, your hormones won’t function optimally, leading to further challenges in navigating peri and post menopause. What Is This Time Calling You To?

This transitional period calls for a deeper connection with yourself. It is a meno- pause.

Are you taking the necessary steps to support your health? For example, if you are taking Hormone Replacement Therapy it’s important that your gut health and liver health is on board so the body can most effectively utilize and clear the hormones. At this time prioritizing gut and liver health will significantly impact your overall wellness and an ND is very skilled at this..

The Role of Lifestyle and Nutrition

Did you know that 90% of your wellness is influenced by lifestyle and nutrition?

You have the power to create freedom in your future by addressing key lifestyle factors. Here are six top treatment modules to consider for supporting your well-being during this transition:

Gut and Liver Health: Focus on nourishing foods that promote gut health, such as probiotics and fiber-rich vegetables. These changes can enhance hormone absorption and healthy clearing and support overall wellness.

Dysregulated Nervous System: Many women in midlife experience a dysregulated nervous system, resulting in stress and anxiety. Consider somatic coaching and yoga therapy to rebalance your system at its roots.

Prioritize Connection: Seek out joy and pleasure in your life. Connection with others releases oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone.” It’s essential for improving memory, mood, and even muscle regeneration and immune health.

Nurturing Touch: Simple acts of nurturing, such as hugs, massages, or even cuddling with a pet, can increase oxytocin levels. Consider spending quality time with friends, family, or pets to foster these connections.

Belly Breaths and Mindfulness: Incorporate deep breathing exercises and mindfulness practices into your daily routine. These techniques can reduce stress and promote a sense of calm.

Get Outdoors: Spending time in nature can greatly improve your mental well-being. Aim for regular walks or outdoor activities to benefit both your mood and physical health.

Intentionality in Prioritizing Oxytocin

Oxytocin is unique in that the more you produce, the more you can create! It is THE hormone to be inviting for ant woman who is up for stepping out of the physiology that speeds our aging and limits our natural aliveness and full, unique, delightful expression.

To harness its benefits, ask yourself:

  • What makes you laugh?

  • What nourishes your soul?

  • What activities do you truly enjoy, and how can you incorporate more of them into your life?

  • Make a conscious effort to engage in activities that promote joy and connection. Whether it’s enjoying a good book, cooking a favorite meal, or spending time with loved ones, traveling, bike riding, spending time in nature, singing karaoke - prioritize what brings you happiness.

Embracing the changes of peri-menopause and menopause doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By understanding what’s happening in your body and taking proactive steps to support your well-being, you can navigate this journey with empowerment and ease. The key lies in listening to your body, nourishing your mind, and prioritizing connections and activities (including rest, play and pure pleasure!) that bring you alive and feeling at home in your own skin.

As you embark on this transformative phase, remember that you are not alone.
